About Afterword

A quiet place for the information your family will need.

Afterword was built after watching families spend weeks trying to piece together passwords, account numbers, and documents in the middle of grief. We wanted the gentlest possible way to do this work in advance — so the people you love don’t have to do it for you.

Our mission

Estate planning has always been for the people who stay, not the person who wrote the will. We make the part a lawyer won’t — the digital handoff — approachable, private, and calm enough to actually finish.

What we value

Calm over urgency

We will never guilt you into finishing. This product is here when you’re ready. It waits.

Small over clever

We deliberately don’t try to be a password manager, a legal service, or a tax tool. The smaller the scope, the more we can polish each part.

Privacy is table stakes

No third-party tracking. Credentials encrypted in the application layer before they hit the database. Documents retrieved only through short-lived, signed links.

Human copy, human tone

We write the way we would talk to a friend working through this. No SaaS cheerleading, no anxiety-inducing CTAs.

What Afterword isn’t

We’re honest about what we don’t do — it’s part of staying small.

  • We are not a law firm, and we don’t give legal advice.
  • We don’t help you write a will — we help you organize what goes alongside it.
  • We don’t replace a password manager for your day-to-day accounts.
  • We don’t support international assets or non-US legal structures (yet).
  • We don’t file taxes, manage trusts, or execute wills on your behalf.

If this resonates

The best thing you can do today is spend twenty minutes filling in the credentials section. The rest can follow at your own pace.
